Message from the Principal
Dear Parent,
My best wishes for a very Happy and Prosperous New Year. May you and your families be blessed with bountiful gifts, peace and lots of happiness.
The world has been waiting for 2020 and many believe that this year will be the cornerstone for the rest of the decade, as it unfolds to immense possibilities, new opportunities, and amazing accomplishments.
Being a passionate educator and having dedicated my life to teaching, I have witnessed the impact that good schooling has on children. On behalf of SSIS and my senior management team, I promise to take your child on an unparalleled voyage of discovery, strewn with rich learning experiences as we teach them key 21st-century skills that will give them the edge over their peers.
Naturally, we will not be able to achieve our vision for your child, if we don’t have YOU the parent, taking an active interest in your child’s great learning adventure. I, therefore, appeal to all of you to ensure that your child doesn’t miss a single day at school. When the school is in session, we want our students present, smartly attired in their school uniform.
A lot has been said about the changing landscape of education and we all know about it since our country’s economy and employment practices are closely linked. I have often said this and strongly believe, that present jobs will become redundant in a few years and we need to prepare our children with a new set of life skills needed for future job markets.
This is also a personal challenge, which I’ve taken up as MISSION 2030 for myself and the school I lead.
Mission 2030 involves many new initiatives, some of which have already been started at the school and my team and I need your support to ensure that your child participates in all these learning projects. At SSIS we live with the creed “Always being the best in what we do” as we are the Shining Stars.
Work has begun on the Educational Transformation Framework as we want to be a Microsoft Showcase School by the end of this academic year. A large majority of our teachers are now certified Microsoft Innovative Educators having completed the Microsoft Innovative Educator program.
In support of the above initiative, we have also introduced the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program in school. 40 tabs have been purchased by the school management to support technology-based learning and to improve independent learning skills. I will be reaching out to you with additional details over the next few weeks and I would like you to support your child in this.
Another program launched in the school is the Model United Nations (MUN) this program has proven to be a very effective tool to strengthen communication and interpersonal skills, whilst also creating awareness about international issues.
The MUN club has already been initiated in school and we are looking forward to our first international conferences in the coming months; Azerbaijan in Jan end, Canterbury MUN in March, BVCMUN, and Chandigarh in August.2020. Our final destination though will be the UN HQ in New York / Geneva. Our children are very excited to be a part of (MUN) and we need your blessings as we take part in these conferences at school and overseas
Toastmasters and Gavel Club will kick off in February to empower our students and teachers with public speaking and declamation skills.
We have also introduced The School Farm project which is an innovative approach that helps students appreciate nature and farming. Our Shining Stars will learn how to grow fruits and vegetables and then use the school garden as their own learning space. This will be an ongoing project involving parents and neighbourhood communities for recycling kitchen organic waste and composting. Inshallah! We should all see the fruits of our hard work by March 2020.
As you can see at Shining Star International School, we have great hopes and plans for this year. It rolls out our vision and expectations for the next decade, which we believe will benefit the country we live in and the world our children will inherit.
I reach out to you to hold our hands in support so that we embark on this journey as a TEAM building strong and better lives for our children. Without your support, our best-placed plans will not come to fruition.

Inter-School Fancy Dress Competition
SSIS organized a grand and exciting Inter-School Fancy Dress on 5th Dec 2019 from KG1 to Grade 2 ‘Trash to Treasure’ – Green Walk. It was the most awaited event, as it is always a pleasure to see the children dressed up as different characters. This competition aimed to provide an amicable platform for the students to showcase their hidden talents and express themselves with mettle and confidence.
The theme for the fancy dress was ‘Endangered species, Fairy Tales, 3 R’s – Reduce –Recycle –Reuse and Things We Use’. 146 students from seven different schools participated in this event with enthusiasm and zeal.
Parents also joined us for the event and we got an overwhelming response from them too. They were amazed to see their kids participating enthusiastically. SSIS sincerely thank all the guest schools and the parents, who attended the event to show their support and encouragement.
A wave of colours was spread all over the auditorium as students dressed in vibrant costumes crisscrossed over the stage, highlighting the sustainable development goal. Our respectable judges came on the stage and appreciated the effort of the teachers and students and expressed their gratitude for organizing the event. It was a colourful event filled with colours. The overall winner of the rolling trophy was Sunrise English Private School.

GEMS United Drawing Competition
Our SSIS students participated in GEMS UIS painting and Hindi Competition held at GEMS UIS School. They enjoyed the competitive moments with full enthusiasm. 15 Schools participated in the event. Our Student’s performance was excellent.

Winter Carnival
‘2019 The Year of Tolerance’ where SSIS has brought all the countries together in one place at ‘Global Fiesta’ the winter carnival which was organized in SSIS where Shining Stars represented different countries in one place, showcasing the love and harmony among each other. The students, parents and neighbouring schools were also invited for the fiesta to explore all the countries with a visa free country.
This event gave students a lot to learn from each other’s cultural and religious values. This helped our children to understand how UAE, a melting pot of diverse cultures, can have a strong bonding with each other’s community.
All the country pavilions made by the staff and students were a place of learning, whilst having sumptuous food spread across the carnival.
The main attraction of this event was Lucky Draws where the students and staff received wonderful gifts and prizes.

Inter-School Dance Competition
Our Shining Star International School primary students participated in Mayoor Dance Fiesta – an Inter-School Dance Competition under the CBSE Hubs of learning, for students at Mayoor Private School.
Six schools under HUBS of learning from Abu Dhabi participated in the competition. Our Shining Stars team of ten students belong to Group B came out with flying colors and won first prize in the competition. We are proud of our little Shining Stars dance performance.

Non-Instructional Working Days
You don’t learn to walk by following the rules, you need to explore beyond what you can do!
The quote above explains how Non-Instructional Working Days are the best part of the academic year. During these days the teachers are provided with ample opportunities to develop their skills and abilities. Keeping this in mind, the SLT and HODs of various departments took Professional development sessions for our staff to upgrade their teaching skills and introduced various technological tools to include in their lessons as we at SSIS follow the 21st Century Learning Design which helps the learners to learn and showcase their skills using technological opportunities provided by the teachers during lessons.
We had PD sessions on various topics like Assessment for Learning, a Session on Ed Tech Tools for AFL like Flip grid, Innovation in Classrooms, Feedback, Differentiation, Experiential Learning, and Design Thinking. All these sessions were interesting enough as the teachers applied their learning by planning activities, Lesson Plans during the sessions.
Overall it was a fruitful week with many new apps introduced and various techniques of teaching learned through these sessions.
