Farm in School

Farm-in-school is one way to get students excited about healthy eating. Swimming Pool 

At Shining Star, we believe that healthy mind lives in a healthy body. We have taken this initiative one step further. We are in a process of introducing swimming pool in our school.

Microsoft School

Today is the world of design thinking and problem-solving, Technology plays decisive role in developing those skills. As a result SSIS has introduced Microsoft Innovative Educator program at school and pledges to be fully functional  Microsoft school by 2021.

Flag Day

The UAE flag is a symbol of the country’s unity and greatness and that is why UAE Flag day is celebrated on 3rd November every year. The flag is hoisted at 11 am all over the country.

Like every year, our school followed the protocol and the Principal hoisted the UAE flag in the presence of staff and students. It was followed by the UAE National Anthem. The day filled everyone with pride and a sense of belonging to the country we so lovingly called “Home”

Author’s Visit

You put a little seed in a child’s hand and it’s a promise that little seed is going to grow into a plant.’ – Stephen Ritz.
Re-owned author and environmentalist Stephen Ritz visited SSIS where the students got the privilege to attend a session with Stephen Ritz organized by the school on 5th November 2019 on the school premises.

Stephen Ritz is a South Bronx educator who believes that students should not have to leave their community to live, learn, and earn better. An internationally acclaimed award-winning educator. He is the author of the best-selling book, The Power of a Plant, and founder of Green Bronx Machine. Known as ‘America’s Favorite Teacher’, he is responsible for creating the first edible classroom in the world.

Stephen was a Top Ten Finalist for the Global Teacher Prize, named Global Humanitarian, Food Tank Hero, TEDx Prize Winner, and a Global Food Educator, and has presented at the Obama White House three times.

He inspired students to go green and grow gardens. He motivated students to cut off on junk food and eat healthily as well as to grow food indoors. He told everyone to move from being consumers to producers and change their status in the larger ecosystems and economic systems that they are a part of.
It was a momentous day for everyone and the school will try to inculcate his ideas at the campus too.

UAE CBSE Cluster Championship 2019

SSIS organized the UAE CBSE Cluster Kabaddi championship on 3rd, November 2019. It was for the first time in SSIS the UAE Cluster competition was conducted. The competition was inaugurated by Dr. Abdul Kader in the presence of Principal Ms.Abhilasha Singh.

11 schools from all over Emirate participated in the championship. The competition was for the boys U-17 & U-19 categories. The kabaddi championship went to a different level of standards when it was conducted in Kabaddi mat for the first time in Cluster competition. The U-19 category matches were played in the auditorium and U-17 matches were played outdoors on the AstroTurf.

All the officials were well-qualified referees who specialized in the game of Kabaddi. There was a huge crowd who witnessed the spectacular and breath taking matches. The nail-biting finishes added up to the excitement. The matches were thoroughly observed & monitored by CBSE Chief observer (UAE chapter) Ms. Kusum Lata and by Mr.Tapan Das. Trophies for the champions in the U-17 & U-19 categories were presented by CBSE Chief Sports observer (UAE chapter) Ms. Kusum Lata and by our Principal Ms.Abhilasha Singh respectively.

Trip to Um Al Emirate Park

A trip to Um Al Emirate Park was organized by the school for grades 3 to 5 for celebrating ‘2019 The Year of Tolerance’.

The volunteers of the park accompanied the students to visit different areas of the park which included various games and activities based on The Year of Tolerance festival celebrated by UAE. The gifts were offered to the students, which they relished very much. Our students got the opportunity to walk around the park and become aware of Tolerance mascot and collect a few memories with the positivity around. Fun-filled activities were planned for the students. The children were fascinated by the extent of the park and the variety of activities.

Fancy Dress Competition

Shining Star International School organized the Trash to Treasure Fancy Dress Competition for KG1 to Grade 2 on 12th November 2019. It was the most awaited event, as it is always a pleasure to watch the toddlers dressed up as different characters and stuttering away in their costumes.

The students came forward displaying their vibrant costumes made with recycling materials. The few to list out are Tiny Panda, Graceful Peacock, Fairies, and many more. The competition brought an amiable ambiance and the judges retorted with their applause. It was indeed a mesmerizing event which would be etched in our memory for a very long time.

Children’s Day Celebration

Each child is a different kind of flower; together they make this world a beautiful garden. SSIS celebrated Children’s Day focusing on children and their enjoyment. The day is celebrated to pay tribute to the legendary freedom fighter and our first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru popularly known as Chacha Nehru.

Shining Star International School always strives to emerge out with something new for its students and Children’s Day is a day especially for them. The teachers thought of a different beat and gifted a fun day to the children. As it is generally seen, students perform for teachers on various occasions, but today on 14th November 2019 at SSIS teachers gave various performances for the students to express their love and care for them. The program started with a song by teachers. The theme of the whole celebration was “Children you are precious for us. We love you”.
Teachers mesmerized the audience with their foot tapping performances. The power-packed performance set the stage on fire. To highlight the importance of this day the Principal, Mrs. Abhilasha Singh addressed the students on the occasion. The students were overwhelmed with the entire effort. They cheered their teachers on as they saw them on stage. Later the ‘Children’s Day Fete was organised by each grade with the different activities and games, children learned the importance of entrepreneurship, self-confidence and leadership. The campus was buzzing with excitement and joy. The day ended in a beautiful resonance lingering in everybody’s minds. The entire program was applauded by everybody present and will always remain etched in the memory of one and all.

EdEx-MENA Conference

“Conferences are assemblies of people where individuals are empowered with knowledge and skills to impart thereon with everyone.”

EdEx MENA conference attended by the Heads of Departments of various subjects and teachers of our school was an event full of information mainly about EXPO 2020 apart from other sessions focusing on use of technology in the class rooms, SMILE strategy session on how to avoid stress in ones’ life, and different applications that would be used in teaching and learning which were being offered for the institutions by the different companies across UAE.
There was a plethora of exhibitors from different organizations; we gathered lots of information whilst having one to one conversations with the exhibitors, one amongst them was the Chairman of ANKABUT, which helps and supports in information systems of the universities.

There was a very good presentation about the EXPO 2020 which will begin in October next year. The different pavilions Expo will include were mentioned as the Sustainability District, An Opportunity District, and Mobility District with Al Wasl Plaza at the center of the EXPO connecting all of these. It was also shared that an Expo Village, A Shopping Mall and Route Station 2020 which connects with the Dubai Metro and Falcons’ Wings building are a part of this initiative. Many events which will help students to compete with each other were the main highlights of this session.

Overall, this event was very beneficial in terms of knowing more about the UAE’s initiatives globally.

The Constitution Day

The Constitution Day was celebrated on 26th November, 2019 at the Indian Embassy. The programme was part of the initiative taken by the Government of India to commemorate the making of the Constitution of India and to create awareness about the importance of our constitution.

The ceremony began at 10.30 am in the auditorium of Indian Embassy. Various Indian Community Schools represented the function including our school. A documentary was played depicting the major timelines of the events in crafting the Constitution of India with its Preamble.

Facts were highlighted about our constitution and its uniqueness incorporating the unity, integrity and the diversity of India.
The Preamble of our Constitution was read out in English and Hindi. Students were encouraged to respect the constitution and abide by its doctrines and guidelines as it is the heart and soul of our great nation.

This celebration will continue throughout the year until 26 November, 2020. The Indian Embassy will organize events either in Embassy premise or in the premise of the selected schools.

It was a marvellous event graced by senior official of Indian Embassy and well represented by the various Indian organizations and Indian Community Schools. It was an inspiring occasion rousing the feeling of patriotism and spirit of union of the Federation of India.

It was a golden opportunity for our students to gain knowledge and add information about our esteemed constitution and rich cultural heritage. It was a great privilege to participate in this auspicious event under the auspices and patronage of Government of India and the Indian Embassy.

UAE National Day Celebration

As the UAE celebrated its 48th National day, the staff and students of Shining Star International School joined together to celebrate it in the campus on 28th November’2019.

The day started by saluting the martyrs who gave their lives for the country and to recognize their sacrifices and dedication, a special assembly was conducted in the school auditorium which was hosted by Aishwarya the Head Girl of our school and Naqaa from Grade 11 A. The event included a PPT based on the rich culture of UAE, melodious songs and traditional dances.
SSIS also inaugurated the ‘Farm in School’ an innovative concept to use vegetable garden as a learning space by sowing the seeds and planting saplings in the school green house.

Later the students set up an Arab Souk in the school. They decorated their stalls with traditional food and sweets of UAE, and organized some games and activities.

The students enjoyed the day and filled their hearts with love and respect for the country and its leaders.
